Steps to apply

At Bluffton University, we want to make the process of joining the Bluffton University community as simple as possible. Bluffton operates on a rolling admission plan, and you’re welcome to apply anytime after you’ve completed your junior year in high school. Once we receive your application and all other requested admissions materials (items 2-4), we usually make admission decisions within two weeks. However, applications received before May 31 are given priority consideration.

  • If you haven’t done so already, we encourage you to visit campus. There’s no better way to get a feel for a place than to experience it for yourself, plus we’ll waive the application fee! Say you live more than 250 miles away from Bluffton? That’s no excuse! Take advantage of our Bluffton Fly/Drive program to make the travel feasible.
  • Fill out and return an admissions application. Getting an application couldn’t be easier:
  • Complete the top portion of the guidance counselor recommendation form (pdf). Give the form with a stamped envelope addressed to Bluffton University, 1 University Drive, Bluffton, OH 45817-2104 to your guidance counselor.  Bluffton no longer requires a teacher recommendation. However, we will ask for two teacher references in your application that we reserve the right to contact if necessary.
  • Take the ACT or the SAT and have the scores sent to Bluffton.
  • Search and apply for scholarships (check out Bluffton’s scholarship page) and take advantage of scholarship opportunities announced by your high school guidance counselor
  • Register for a PIN for federal financial aid purposes. Both you and your parents will need one. Save these numbers somewhere where you know where they are because you will need them again next year.
  • In Jaunuary, file your 2007 income tax and fill out the FAFSA (Free Application of Student Financial Aid). Priority deadline for filing the FAFSA is May 1.
  • Financial aid award notices are mailed to accepted students beginning March 1. Be sure to sign and return the notice confirming your decision to accept our offer of financial assistance.
  • Send deposit…
  • Once you have deposited, submit a completely and honestly filled out Student Housing Questionnaire form. This helps us to match you with the perfect roommate. Should you have questions, contact Jackie Wells, director of residence life at 419-358-3376 or by email at wellsj@bluffton.edu.
  • Register for one of the four summer orientation programs. You will meet with an academic advisor and register for classes at this time.
  • Attend summer orientation. Start to get your bearings on campus and get to know the people who may become your lifelong friends.
  • Start packing. Check out the what to bring/what not to bring lists.
  • Move onto campus and participate in the week-long fall orientation activities
