TO: The Bluffton University Alumni, Friends and Parents
FROM: Cheryl Hacker, Vice Chair, Board of Trustees
Chair, Presidential Search Committee
SUBJECT: Presidential Search Update
I am writing to keep you posted on the early planning and progress in the presidential search. The search committee met for the first time on Thursday, October 5, and accepted the charge from Board Chair Kent Yoder.
We spent time reviewing and approving a preliminary timeline, confirming the next steps in the search process, and discussing the necessity of maintaining strict confidentiality throughout the search. To that end, all committee members have signed a confidentiality agreement, designed to protect our candidate pool and to strengthen the search outcomes.
The search committee will work with the assistance of Dr. Thomas B. Courtice, who brings 13 years of experience as a search consultant in higher education. Prior to his search consultancy, Tom served as the president of three private colleges, the most recent of which was Ohio Wesleyan University. Tom also has some familiarity with Bluffton and its mission. We believe that he is well equipped to provide valuable insights and direction to our efforts in the coming months.
Tom was on campus Wednesday and Thursday, October 18 & 19, to talk with students, faculty and staff in order to understand their insights about what the agenda for Bluffton's next president should include and what the most desired attributes will be for this next generation of presidential leadership.
Your thoughts on these issues are equally valuable and we would welcome your written response as we prepare the detailed Search Profile that will help Bluffton attract strong candidates. Please send your feedback to email@example.com by Oct. 29, 2017.
